14th edition of the International Film Festival of Morelia

From October 21st to the 30th of 2016, the 14th edition of the International Film Festival of Morelia will be held. It has become the epicenter of the film community in the country. The Morelia International Film Festival is the most important annual event that recognizes the work of Mexican cinema, obtaining international coverage and contributing to tourist activities in the city of Morelia.

This year, it promises to be one of the best editions of the festival, with more films in competition than ever before. There will be 106 movies in the official competition: 60 films, 14 documentaries, 17 local films and 15 national films; they will compete in four categories:Michoacana section, Mexican Short Film, Mexican documentary and Mexican Film.

This festival has been the platform for various independent filmmakers, since the event is attended by key individuals within the seventh art. This year, it will have as special guests: Willem Dafoe, Giada Colagrande and Audrey Tautou, star of the iconic French film Amélie.

The film Neruda will be responsible for opening the event, starring Gael García Bernal and Luis Gnecco, which will be screened on October 21st. Among the most important international premieres include: Nocturnal Animals, Tom Ford;La La Land, Damien Chazelle; The Birth of a Nation, Nate Parker; Manchester by the Sea, Kenneth Lonergan.

Taking advantage of the bilateral year with Germany, the Morelia International Film Festival will present a special program dedicated to the Berlin International Film Festival. It will feature all the sections presented in Berlinale and cure by Dieter Kosslick (general director of the Berlin Film Festival).

Some of the most important venues during the Morelia International Film Festival will be the Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin, Benito Juarez Plaza and the Ruben Romero Theater, which are major tourist attractions.
